My New Year’s Events Resolutions

I recently read this great article from Sue Pelletier (@spelletier) where she wrote about her 10 new year’s resolutions for events and meetings. She lists such great things that I’ve been inspired to create my own list of resolutions. So, without further ado, here are my 2012 new year’s events resolutions…

My Year in Reflection

I can’t believe another year has already gone by. I say it all the time but it is absolutely crazy how fast time flies. I mean, this time last year, I was in the middle of a 4 day stay in a hospital in Bali getting treated for dengue fever. And this year, I’m back in Vancouver with a new job in an industry I really care about.

Here are some highs (and lows) of my 2011:

I’m really, really, really excited!

So remember when I talked about how powerful informational interviews were and how I think every job hunter should use them? Well, as of tomorrow, I will be gainfully employed – all thanks to an informational interview I had a couple of weeks ago.

Disclaimer

After some feedback I got, I just want to make it clear that I am simply recounting my own experiences and thoughts so far. I’m not here to slander or make fun of a company/person. I just want to share with you my journey and all the bumps along the way.

Cheers,

Priscilla

New Direction

This past weekend, I was fortunate to be part of Event Camp Vancouver 2011. I was inspired by several of the speakers as well as event professionals that I met through the conference. Because of that, I’ve decided to take a new direction with my blog.

Since I’ve been back in Vancouver, my main focus has been to obtain a position with an established and successful events production company. I really wanted to be immersed in event planning and learn from event professionals who’ve been doing this for years. However, I quickly learned that this industry is extremely competitive and has high barriers to entry. The key is timing and who you know. Since timing is something I can’t control, I’ve been doing everything I can to meet and network with experienced event professionals. That brings me back to this blog… I’m going to start chronicling my journey in the events industry. I’ll start with posting experiences/conversations I’ve had and people and companies I’ve met so far. If you’re also trying to break into the business, you might find this useful and I invite you to share your journey as well. I know everything I learned so far has only made me more determined to be successful.

Again, thanks for being patient with the changes. As you can tell, I’ve moved from Blogger to WordPress with the hopes that this platform can offer more custom options. I’m still playing around with the design so please bear with me.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me. I love feedback.

Cheers,

Priscilla
